Elon Musk has said that Tesla’s much-vaunted Roadster project will not be ready until 2023, but even then there is plenty of room for that to change despite the car now being three years behind its original timeline.
Despite that, Musk has been tweeting to say that the Roadster will now be ready to ship in 2023, going on to say that even that isn’t guaranteed. We should get the Roadster in two years assuming 2022 isn’t a “mega drama,” he says.
2021 has been the year of super crazy supply chain shortages, so it wouldn’t matter if we had 17 new products, as none would ship. Assuming 2022 is not mega drama, new Roadster should ship in 2023.
The Roadster has big expectations thanks to its insane speeds and gorgeous looks. One was even shot into space, but so far that has been one of the few instances where we’ve actually seen a Roadster.
The car itself is impressive. Reaching 60Mph in just 1.9s and with a range of 600 miles, it’s set to be a very impressive bit of kit.
But getting it into the hands of customers is proving troublesome — an issue when people have already paid deposits of up to 250,000 for the car.
