Apple has reportedly decided to go it alone when building an electric car after dealing with delays when involving other companies. Apple is now said to be selecting parts suppliers, according to a new report by Maeil Economic Daily.
The report notes that Apple has been working on some sort of Apple Car project since around 2014, but took the decision to cease work on the physical car in 2016.
At that point, attention turned to creating the self-driving car technology and software with the aim being to have a third party build the car instead. That now appears to be changing once more after talks with the likes of Toyota, BMW, and Hyundai fell apart.
It’s now thought that Apple is once again planning on building its own car, with companies that can supply the parts already being sounded out.
The report now believes that Apple will be able to have Apple Car production ready for a launch in or around 2025, something that has already been claimed by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Apple has already been rumored to be on the lookout for a company that can build car batteries in the United States, while it is now said to have sent Request for Information (RFI), Request for Proposal (RFP), and Request for Quotation (RFQ) paperwork to part manufacturers around the world.
