Apple’s 14 And 16-Inch MacBook Pro Display Resolutions Leaked

Apple has long been very heavily rumored to have new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro notebooks in the works and now it appears that the display resolutions for those machines could have just leaked, too.

The new Macs are already expected to come with a fancy new Apple-designed M1X chip inside, but it looks like they’re going to have some great Retina displays, too.

According to data found by MacRumors, plucked out of the latest macOS Monterey beta, Apple’s new portable Macs will come with “3456 x 2234 Retina” and “3024 x 1964 Retina” displays. That’s because the resolutions are listed but don’t correspond to any current MacBook Pro.

The current 16-inch MacBook Pro has a native display resolution of 3072 x 1920, while the current 13-inch MacBook Pro’s native resolution is 2560 x 1600, giving both machines a pixel density of 226–227 pixels per inch.

If the new resolutions are accurate and are indeed what we can expect from this year’s MacBook pros, they’ll come with a pixel density of around 250ppi. That would in turn allow the machines to run at a 2x Retina mode for the sharpest possible image.

Apple is expected to announce the new notebooks within the next few weeks, likely before December rolls around. The new displays, coupled with more powerful internals, make these some of the most hotly anticipated Macs since the Mac Pro refresh a few years ago.
