Apple’s iPhone 14, set to launch in or around September 2022, will feature a new design according to reports.
Apple’s recently-released iPhone 13 borrowed heavily from the design of the outgoing iPhone 12, calling some to dub it an iPhone 12s product.
Following reports from both leaker Jon Prosser and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the iPhone 14 will ditch the notch in favor of a punch-hole camera design, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that the iPhone 14 will be a completely new product in a recent Power On newsletter.
According to Gurman, Apple’s engineers have been using the so-called ‘S’ year to give them the bandwidth to work on something more interesting for next year’s launch.
The minor changes this year also mean that Apple’s engineers were working behind the scenes on bigger things that will take more time. With the iPhone 14, you can expect new entry-level and Pro models and a complete redesign. Until then, enjoy the iPhone 13—or just stick with the iPhone 12.
Gurman is of course correct that anyone with an iPhone 12 series should probably hang fire until next year before buying a new device. The rumored iPhone 14 is said to come with no camera bump as well, doing away with something that very much dominates the back of the new iPhone 13 models.
Apple might have only released the iPhone 13 devices a matter of days ago, but the rumors for iPhone 14 are already strong. Now, we wait.
