Rumored M1X MacBook Pros Could Ship With 120Hz Displays Like iPhone 13 Pro

Yesterday, Apple announced that it will be holding a streamed event next week and that event is roundly expected to see the announcement of new MacBook Pro notebooks.

Alongside faster Apple-designed M1X chips, these new machines are also expected to be the first to make use of a mini-LED display — and that could have a benefit we haven’t heard of yet.

According to display industry analyst Ross Young, Apple could be set to bring a 120Hz refresh rate to its new notebooks, just like the new iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The reason for Young’s belief is simple — they say that the MacBook Pro’s displays will be produced by Sharp and LG Display. Those same companies already make the 120Hz mini-LED screens that are found in Apple’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro, suggesting that the same technology will be in play in the new MacBook Pro notebooks, too.

The addition of a 120Hz option would be a big benefit for people who like that kind of thing, but it could also be an even bigger benefit in terms of battery life. If the displays are capable of reducing their refresh rate to 10Hz like the new iPhones, Apple’s next MacBook Pro could be a battery life champion.

Apple’s big event is next Monday, with a rumored AirPods announcement also set to be in tow.
