AirPods Pro 2 Images Leak Showing Speaker Holes In Charging Case And More

Supposed images of the 2nd gen. AirPods Pro have just leaked, showing a design that has left some experts questioning whether its the real deal or not.

The images of these unreleased AirPods Pro 2 come to us from MacRumors who received these “from a source (“Xerxes”) without an established track record and we can’t verify their accuracy.” But then people had brushed aside the notch rumors on the MacBook Pro as well and look how that turned out.

Coming back to the leak, we see a design that is not much changed from the current offering, at least the earbuds look the same. The Wireless Charging Case however, seems to show some peculiar new features.

We see speaker holes which are likely to be for a future Find My integration allowing your iPhone to sound an alert on the casing to locate it when misplaced or lost. We also have a metal loop on the side which could be used for attaching a lanyard to the case, something we’ve never really seen on any AirPods offering before.

As pointed out by Jon Prosser, these images and what they imply, go against an old report by the reliable Mark Gurman where he talked about Apple moving to a stemless design for the new AirPods Pro. The images here however, show the same stem design from the 1st gen.

For the new AirPods Pro, Apple is aiming to make the earbuds more compact by eliminating the short stem that currently sticks out from the bottom. A design in testing has a more rounded shape that fills more of a user’s a ear — similar to the latest designs from Samsung Electronics Co., Amazon.com Inc. and Google.

However, MacRumors has pointed out that its source insists that Apple will not be ditching the stem for these new AirPods Pro. Perhaps there is some merit to it with reports telling us how Apple is looking to pack in some health and fitness tracking features as well. Making the AirPods compact with all that tech inside may not be looking practical for now.

We are expecting Apple to announced the new AirPods Pro somewhere in early 2022, so until then, all rumors are fair game.
