Just after Facebook announced that it has changed its name to Meta, a picture of what is supposedly the company’s first smartwatch has just leaked online.
Facebook had been rumored to be working on its own smartwatch for some time now, and now with the company having rebranded its name more akin to its future plans, a smart wearable would be the prefect fit.
The picture comes courtesy of Bloomberg, and shows a design that is not much far off from most smart wearables out there. To some it may even be a more square-ish Apple Watch, and a detachable strap adds further similarity.
Bloomberg further details that the watch houses a button on the top of the case. We can also see a front-facing camera on the front for video calling, while speculation of the watch sporting a camera at the back remains. Earlier reports have suggested that the display will be detachable allowing users to use the watch as a webcam of sorts.
We are also looking at a smartphone-independent wearable here, thanks to cellular connectivity allowing access to services like WhatsApp and Messenger. More so, we can expect a bunch of health tracking and monitoring features; in particular a heart rate monitor amongst other features.
The watch is expected to be launched as early as 2022, but as is with most cases that are pure rumor, we have to wait and watch.
