Kuo: iPhone 14 And Mixed Reality Headset To Get WiFi 6E

Apple’s iPhone 14, set to launch next year, and future mixed reality headset will both benefit from new WiFi 6E connectivity, according to a new report.

Citing an investor note by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, MacRumors says that Apple’s next iPhone and the rumored AR/VR headset will use WiFi 6E connectivity for improved transfer speeds between the two.

In an investor note obtained by MacRumors, TF Securities analyst ‌Ming-Chi Kuo‌ said that new Apple products, including the ‌iPhone 14‌ and a head-mounted display device, will accelerate a broader industry upgrade to the Wi-Fi 6E specification. Motivated by the adoption of Wi-Fi 6E in these two Apple devices, competitors will be encouraged to do the same.

While hard details about the new headset are unclear, it’s thought that it will need to be paired with an iPhone in order to work. That would potentially explain the requirement for the speedy WiFi 6E connectivity, allowing the two devices to communicate as quickly and with as solid a connection as possible.

With that in mind, it also isn’t clear how well older iPhones will work with the new headset — they won’t boast the same WiFi 6E connections, of course.

WiFi 6E allows for improved latency as well, something that could be of huge benefit to something like an AR/VR headset.
