Tesla Reportedly Adding Car Sharing To Its App Ahead Of Possible Tesla Network

A new Tesla app update appears to have outed a new feature that would allow people to share their cars with other people ahead of a rumored Tesla Network ride-sharing system.

Rumors of a Tesla Network have been around for a while, with CEO Elon Musk having previously said that the Model 3 and Model Y were built with the idea of self-driving and ride-sharing in mind.

According to a tweet today, version 4.3.1 of the Tesla app includes references to three things that are important:

  • Sharing your Tesla vehicle with others
  • Asset for vehicle sharing
  • Endpoints related to vehicle sharing

All of this would obviously be much more useful if and when full self-driving capabilities are unlocked for all and with wider capabilities. The idea could be that people would allow their personal car to be hailed as a taxi of sorts, potentially earning them money rather than sitting unused in a garage.

As great as that sounds, it’s some way off being a viable reality for Tesla right now. But this new app update does suggest that the pieces are being put in place for when the big switch can be flipped.

Would you let your car be used in this way, or does the idea leave you concerned for the safety of your vehicle? Shout out in the comments below.
