Apple’s iPhone 13 is only a few months old but we’re already getting ready to hear what the company has planned for the iPhone 14 lineup later this year.
Now, a new report by reliable leaker @dylandkt again points to a hole-punch camera design in lieu of a notch.
According to the report, Apple’s notch will be removed for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max but will remain for the lower-end versions. The hole that will house the front-facing camera is expected to be “pill-shaped” while the Face ID technology will be moved beneath the display.
Thankfully, the same report says that we shouldn’t expect Face ID to suffer any ill effects by being covered up.
We’ve heard similar reports before. Both Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have pointed to the use of a hole-punch design in Apple’s flagship models, allowing the notch to be removed entirely.
I am able to corroborate information regarding a hole punch camera for the pro models of the iPhone 14. Face ID hardware will be placed under the display. As a reassurance to any concerns, the functionality of these sensors have not been negatively affected by this change.

Android phone makers have gone that route for a while now, and while Apple will likely want to put the camera under the display at some point, it won’t be doing it just yet.
Pill shaped is what I am hearing.

Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone lineup in or around September, with 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max set to be joined by a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max. The 5.4-inch iPhone is no more, with iPhone 13 mini having been the last model to sport the smallest screen size.
