Apple Reportedly Completes Test Production Of Its Rumored Mixed Reality Headset

Apple is rumored to have a mixed reality headset in the works with a product announcement potentially coming as soon as this year. Now, a new paywalled report by DigiTimes suggests that Apple has already completed production testing for the headset.

The report, which was seen by MacRumors, reportedly cites component suppliers when saying that Apple has been able to complete testing and that a launch before the end of 2022 is still planned.

Citing information from the headset’s component suppliers, the device has reportedly completed second-phase engineering validation tests (EVT 2) to ensure that prototype units meet Apple’s design goals and specifications. DigiTimes added that the headset is expected to debut by the end of 2022.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had previously said that Apple could announce the headset this year before later suggesting that there had been some sort of delay and that a 2022 announcement could be pushed back into 2023.

Unfortunately, the paywalled DigiTimes report is also only a snippet of a larger report that will be made tomorrow – perhaps that will have more information on Apple’s plans.

Apple’s mixed reality headset is expected to leverage both AR and VR technology and be extremely costly in its first iteration. Reports have pointed to a cost north of $2,000 for the product, although that will likely fall as time and technology marches on.
