Rumors of Apple launching a foldable MacBook have been around for about a week now, and while we’re still likely five years or so away from the device being made available to buy — if ever — expectations are already beginning to grow.
Now, a new concept video and associated images show what that unannounced product could look like.
The whole folding notebook idea began last week when display analyst Ross Young said that Apple is working on a device with a foldable 20-inch screen.
As a recap, here’s what the analyst said:
We are now showing Apple in our roadmap for foldable notebooks. We hear there is interest at the largest size yet, around 20.x”. This size could create a new category for Apple and would result in a true dual use product, a notebook with a full-size keyboard when folded and for use as a monitor when not folded and used with an external keyboard.
A more recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that the device could fold to create a notebook that uses an on-screen keyboard, similar to that of an iPad. That’s where this concept picks up the pieces with a physical trackpad also added for good measure.
Created by designer, Antonio De Rosa, the concept imagines what a large foldable display could become. When opened up that large display could be used for all kinds of things, including as an oversized tablet with an Apple Pencil.
You can watch the video and look at the images to get a feel for what Apple could be working on. But remember, even if Apple is indeed planning something like this it’s thought to be years off being ready for primetime.
