Gurman: Apple Watch Series 8 To Include ‘Major Updates To Activity Tracking And Faster Chips’

Apple is widely expected to announce the updated Apple Watch Series 8 later this year and a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that we should keep our eyes peeled for new activity-tracking features and more.

Writing as part of the weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman said that while we shouldn’t expect any new health sensors from this round of updates, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any new health-related features.

The hardware itself will also gain improved performance thanks to the use of new, faster chips as well.

I think this year will be the biggest in the history of the Apple Watch since the original model. I’m looking for three new models this fall: an Apple Watch Series 8, an Apple Watch SE and an Apple Watch geared toward extreme sports. I wouldn’t expect any major new health sensors this year, besides the possible inclusion of the oft-discussed body temperature feature. But look out for major updates to activity tracking and faster chips across the board. Also, the Apple Watch Series 3 may finally be retired.

Apple is likely to announce the Apple Watch Series 8 towards the end of this year, in or around October.

All eyes will be on what Apple has lined up and the release will come weeks after the arrival of the iPhone 14 lineup, making for a busy couple of months for Apple.
