Report: Apple’s Rumored New External Monitor Is Imminent With Work Completed On It Months Ago

Apple reportedly has a new external monitor that it is getting ready to announce and reportedly “completed work on it months ago.” That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman said that Apple could share the new display during its March 8 event, although that isn’t confirmed at this point.

The new monitor will be the first to be announced since the release of the Pro Display XDR, a monitor that debuted in 2019.

I also wouldn’t rule out Apple previewing its next-generation external display. I’m told Apple actually completed work on it months ago, and the device was due to launch soon after last year’s MacBook Pro. Apple’s last in-house monitor came in 2019 alongside the Intel Mac Pro. A monitor would also explain the “peek” spelling.

Apple was rumored last week to be working on a new display that would better the Pro Display XDR’s 6K resolution, with the so-called Apple Studio Display packing an impressive 7K resolution. It isn’t clear whether that’s the same display that Gurman is speaking about, however.

Apple is set to host an online event tomorrow with a raft of new products rumored to be on the way. A refreshed MacBook Air and MacBook Pro seem at the top of the list while a new iPad Air and iPhone SE with 5G support are also heavily rumored.
