The Marvel Cinematic Universe's journey into the multiverse isn't stopping with the movies or Disney+ TV shows. At the D23 Expo, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that the story of the multiverse will continue to evolve within Disney's theme parks too--specifically, Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort's California Adventure.
The new ride was announced, and concept art was shown. However, practically no details were revealed. All we know is that it's coming someday and it looks like it's going to be a major addition to the park. Additionally, chances are this is a replacement plan for the Avengers Quinjet ride that was previously announced for the park. Oh, yeah, and Thanos is back, sort of.
The ride is an interesting addition to the shared universe, seeing as Avengers Campus already exists in a strange little continuity bubble all its own--Tony Stark is alive, the Guardians haven't broken up, Black Widow is a regular face character with a stunt show, and so on. The new ride will be the first time the Avengers Campus story actually intersects with the multiverse explicitly, though--and that could mean just about anything for both the ride itself and the future of the land's ongoing story.
With so few details, there's nothing we can do but wildly speculate about what it could all mean. Which characters will be included? How will this connect Marvel's various universes? Is this a rollercoaster? These are all questions we have after Marvel's ride presentation. So let's take a look at what we know, what we need to know, and what it could all mean.

1. What kind of ride is this?
When Disney first announced a massive ride ahead for Avengers Campus, the concept art was odd, as it looked like guests would be using jetpacks to fly among the Avengers, battling foes over Wakanda. Based on this new art, that's no longer the case. Instead, it looks as if 12 people will sit in a ride vehicle, propelled through the adventure.
It could be that this ride is closer to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance than what was originally planned for the land. That ride is trackless, taking guests through a full-scale Star Wars story.
Interestingly, though, chances are there will be a lot more screens used to tell the story--not unlike the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster at Walt Disney World. With so many characters, of a variety of sizes and mediums to show, expecting that many animatronics and/or actors in the ride seems a little too ambitious.
2. Saturday morning cartoons
If you take a look at the left side of the released concept art, you will see an animated Spider-Man, as well as an animated War Machine/Iron Patriot. Given that this ride is digging deep into the multiverse, any Marvel characters should be eligible to appear here, though we have to wonder if we'll see any animated takes on the characters fans will be familiar with.
3. Going into the Spider-verse
And while he doesn't appear here, who's to say Miles Morales won't play a role in the ride? After all, Into the Spider-Verse is a wildly popular movie with multiple sequels on the way. If we're really jumping around the multiverse, wrapping this corner of Marvel into the story would be icing on the cake.
4. Too many Hulks
The art shows three different Hulks--traditional Hulk, Thor: Ragnarok Hulk, and She-Hulk. While seeing the three of them fighting together would be awesome, why not push it further? Throw in Smart Hulk and even Red Hulk to round out the team.
5. The Netflix heroes
We know Daredevil is making the jump to the MCU on Disney+. However, he can also be seen in the concept art for this attraction. That's enough to make us wonder about other Marvel heroes that originated in the Netflix shows. Could we get Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Punisher, or even Iron Fist thrown into the mix?
6. Werewolf by night
There is a werewolf clearly visible in the art, leading us to believe Werewolf By Night, the upcoming Halloween special, will be represented in the ride.
7. Let's talk about King Thanos
Okay, this is perhaps the wildest part of what we know. The villain of the ride's story is Thanos, but not just any Thanos. This is a Thanos from a corner of the multiverse where he beat the Avengers and his snap plan played out exactly like he intended. Now known as King Thanos and sporting a truly villainous goatee, Avengers Campus is about to get a massive dose of the mad titan.
8. Who's that Black Panther?
Black Panther is in the concept art, but there's no telling who's under that mask. After all, we don't even know who will suit up as Black Panther in the upcoming sequel film. Will whoever the new Black Panther is actually appear in the ride, or is this yet another Panther from another part of the multiverse?
9. Man-Thing
Man-Thing is in the art! We have yet to see Man-Thing in the MCU, though the character does appear in the Werewolf By Night trailer, meaning he'll be in the mix soon enough.
10. Where's the X-Men?
Something not seen in the art is any hint at the X-Men or the Fantastic Four. While we know the Fantastic Four will likely be part of the MCU by the time this ride opens, there's no telling about the X-Men. Still, as we get further along in the ride's development, it's entirely possible we'll see both teams appear.
11. And the Guardians of the Galaxy, for that matter?
There's also no hint of the Guardians of the Galaxy. That could be because the upcoming Volume 3 film is expected to be the last with the current team lineup. However, another reason could be that the Guardians already have two different attractions--Mission Breakout at California Adventure and Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World.
