For the first time Amazon has brought the Prime Video app to the Mac via the App Store. The move means that people can now download a Mac app instead of watching their content via the web using a browser like Safari or Chrome.
Amazon made the announcement earlier today, confirming that the app brings with it the same features you’d expect to see if you’ve become accustomed to watching content on an iPhone or iPad.
That means gamers can use picture-in-picture and more.
- Download videos to watch offline.
- Continue to watch your favorite movie, TV show or a live event via Picture-in-Picture (PiP) while interacting with other apps or websites.
- Rent or buy new-release movies and popular TV shows (availability varies by marketplace).
- Multi-user profiles allow creating personalized entertainment experiences.
- Go behind the scenes of movies and TV shows with exclusive X-Ray access, powered by IMDb.
Amazon Prime Video fans can now also buy and rent content via the app, too. Anyone with a card on file with Amazon will be able to check out using that rather than use Apple;s in-app purchase system, and the full catalog is available.
The new Amazon Prime Video app is available for free from the Mac App Store now.
