If everything goes as the rumors claim that it will we could expect Apple to announce a new mixed reality headset as soon as this year.
Little is really known about what that device will be like or what the user experience will be, but expectations are high. And now Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has been sharing his belief into what we might see.
According to Gurman, writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, Apple’s realityOS could leverage the power of Memojis and SharePlay.
I imagine a virtual reality version of FaceTime where you can be in a conference room with dozens of people. Instead of seeing their actual faces, you’ll see 3D versions of them (Memojis). I assume the headset will be able to determine a person’s facial expressions in real time, making the experience fairly lifelike. I would also look for heavy use of SharePlay in the new realityOS, allowing multiple headset wearers to experience music, movies and games together.
However, its important to note here that Gurman doesn’t seem to be basing this on any particular insider knowledge and is rather making a calculated guess on what we could expect from a mixed reality headset.
Rumors have Apple set to announce the new headset as soon as this year although there has been at least one report that Apple may push that launch back to 2023. Apple is rumored to be planning a March 8 event, but that’s set to focus on Macs, iPads, and the 5G iPhone SE.
