New MacBook Pro With Improved M2 Chip Reportedly Coming Next Month

Apple will launch a new M2-powered MacBook Pro next month according to a new report. Apple is already expected to host a virtual event on March 8 according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman so the timing could make sense.

The report, coming out of supply chain publication DigiTimes, claims that the new MacBook Pro will pack an equally-new M2 chip as a replacement for the current M1 processor.

The report doesn’t say which MacBook Pro but it’s likely this new machine will be a replacement for the current entry-level 13-inch device. That’s the only one that has the current M1 chip, too.

Apple reportedly will release a spate of new devices in early March, including new MacBook Pro adopting the latest M2 processor, budget-level 5G iPhone SE and iPad, the sources said. Except for the processor, most other components used in the new MacBook Pro reportedly will feature almost the same specs as those for existing model featuring M1 chips, leading MacBook Pro supply chain partners to maintain production during the week-long Lunar New Year holiday to satisfy increasing demand for Mac series, the sources continued.

While expectations of a new M2-powered MacBook Pro are not new, we had previously expected the MacBook Air to be the first to boast the replacement for the M1 processors. If this report is correct, that might not be the case. Could Apple announce both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro refreshes at the same March event?

Apple’s March event is already expected to see the announcement of a 5G iPhone SE as well as a refreshed iPad Air.
