New WebKit Security Exploit Could Open The Door To An iOS 15 Jailbreak

Those who want to be able to jailbreak iOS 15.3 on a modern iPhone might be in luck with the news that Apple recently fixed a flaw that would potentially allow for a jailbreak.

That flaw was patched in the recently released iOS 15.3.1 which would mean that anything prior to that could be susceptible.

Apple’s iOS 15.3.1 release notes say that a flaw in iOS 15 through iOS 15.3 could have been “actively exploited” to allow for arbitrary code executive. Twitter account @ZecOps also notes that the exploit was used in the wild as iPhone Hacks reports.

As Apple states in the release notes, the security vulnerability in iOS 15 – iOS 15.3 could have been “actively exploited” for arbitrary code execution, with @ZecOps noting that it was used in the wild as a 0-day. In some scenarios, the vulnerable devices could be hacked by clicking on a link.

While this is all very much theoretical at this point, the theory is sound — if someone wanted to turn this into a jailbreak it could potentially be done.

Whether it will or not is another matter. But if you’re at all interested, making sure you don’t update to iOS 15.3.1 would be a good start. IF you already have, consider downgrading while you still can.
