Tesla Planning To Launch Its Own App Store For In-Car Apps According To Report

Tesla is one of the few car companies that continues to refuse to bring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to its vehicles and now rumors are swirling that the company will instead launch its own app store to bring apps to its cars.

The report comes via Tesla investor Sawwyer Merritt who tweeted a video of Steve Jobs announcing the App Store 14 years ago, saying that “rumor has it something similar is coming soon to something with four wheels that starts with a T.”

While there is no knowing where that information came from, the news was then packed up by Teslascope, an app sued for tracking Tesla trips.

“The rumor is out! Tesla has been working on their own “App Store” since around May 2021 and will launch before deliveries of the Cybertruck. This is what we expected to be shared during the earnings call, although@elonmusk did share this would be the year of “software”,” it posted.

Teslascope then continued, saying that the intended launch period might have been extended — suggesting delays have played a part.

Given this not being mentioned during the earnings call, it is our belief that the intended launch period may have been extended, although work has been in progress since the inception of V11 UI with the refreshed Model S/X.

By launching its own App Store Tesla could allow Apple Music, Spotify, Audible, and other streaming services to build their own apps. The same goes for navigation apps like Google Maps, too.
