Apple Helps Drive Global Record Revenue For Smartphone Sales

Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup was a big factor in global smartphone revenues reaching a new record-high of $448 billion in 2021, Counterpoint reports.

Apple launched the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max in September of 2021 and that helped revenue grow 7% year-on-year, and 12% quarter-on-quarter for the final quarter of 2021.

That’s an impressive result given the fact that smartphones were hard to come by thanks to component shortages that plagued companies towards the end of the year.

The same report notes that the average selling price of iPhones also increased by 14% to $825 thanks to the prominence of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models.

Apple’s iPhone revenue increased 35% YoY to $196 billion in 2021. It captured 44% of total global smartphone revenue in 2021. The high demand for 5G-enabled iPhone 12 and 13 series helped Apple register 14% growth in its overall ASP, which reached $825 in 2021. The brand also managed to increase its share in key emerging markets such as India, Thailand, Vietnam and Brazil.

A strong showing in emerging markets will surely please Apple CEO Tim Cook, while all eyes will be on the upcoming iPhone 14 product lineup. The new iPhone 14 devices are expected to be announced in or around September with new cameras and the removal of the notch likely to be the key talking points.
