Both Foxconn And Luxshare Said To Be Vying For Apple Car Business

Both Foxconn and Luxshare are said to be trying to secure business for the Apple Car, according to a new report. And while neither might work with Apple during the early phases of production it’s thought both have hopes that they could become integral to Apple’s plans further down the line.

Foxconn and Luxshare have both been making inroads into the world of electric vehicle production of late, according to a DigiTimes report. That same report also notes that the pair are thinking about the long game rather than the initial setup of the project.

Although some analysts predict that the Apple Car could enter volume production and make its market debut sometime between 2023 and 2024, industry sources said it is too early to assume that Apple has finished building its EV and carrying out necessary road testing. While Apple might not work with Foxconn and Luxshare for its Apple Car in the beginning, there is a possibility that the two suppliers could play a key role in Apple’s future vehicle plans, the sources said.

Both companies are already heavily involved in Apple’s other businesses and Foxconn is the company’s most important assembler of iPhones. Foxconn in particular is said to be keen to work on the Apple Car project.

The sources said Foxconn could still build up its presence in the Apple Car supply chain by gradually accumulating car-making experience and leveraging its MIH platform, electronic components products, and experience from previous collaborations with automakers (including Stellantis and Fisker).

The Apple Car project is one that has been ongoing for a number of years and there is little that is really known about what it could look like. While it’s thought Apple is keen to ship a whole car, there have been reports in recent years that the company could instead sell self-driving technology to other companies instead.
