Every Version-Exclusive Pokemon In Scarlet And Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will offer Pokemon trainers a brand-new experience in the Paldea region later this year, but the games will retain one key element: version-exclusive Pokemon.

Starting with Pokemon Red and Blue back in the late 1990s, each new generation has been split into two separate versions, each one including Pokemon that can only be found when that version of the game is loaded up. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are no different, and we have begun to learn some of the Pokemon species that will only be found in either Scarlet or Violet.

A dozen Pokemon currently make up the list of version exclusives for this new generation, evenly split with six for Scarlet and six for Violet. Of the 12 exclusive Pokemon announced so far, four of them are new to the Paldea region--including the legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon--and those new species are evenly split two apiece between Scarlet and Violet.

We expect the number of version-exclusive Pokemon to rise as the game's launch date approaches, and we will keep this gallery updated with every new Pokemon named an exclusive from now until launch. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will release on November 18 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Be sure to also check out our list of every Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet.

Scarlet: Koraidon

Koraidon is the Legendary Pokemon of Pokemon Scarlet. Despite possessing what look like tires along its chest, this Pokemon prefers to run on all fours as it travels through Paldea with the player on its back.

Scarlet: Armarouge

Armarouge is a Fire- and Psychic-type Pokemon that protects itself with a suit of armor that used to belong to a distinguished Paldean warrior. In battle, it can blast fireballs from its arms and use the psychic energy stored in the suit to enhance its abilities.

Scarlet: Larvitar

This tiny Pokemon first debuted in the Johto region of Pokemon Gold and Silver. Its official Pokedex entry says that it "feeds on soil" and that "after it has eaten a large mountain, it will fall asleep so it can grow."

Scarlet: Pupitar

Pupitar is the first evolution of Larvitar, representing its "pupa" state before evolving again into Tyranitar.

Note: Pupitar has not been officially named as a version exclusive, but as its pre-evolution Larvitar was specified, its evolutions are presumed exclusive as well.

Scarlet: Tyranitar

Tyranitar is the second and final evolution of Larvitar, a massive Rock- and Dark-type Pokemon that causes earthquakes simply by walking around.

NOTE: Tyranitar has not been officially named as a version exclusive, but as its pre-evolution Larvitar was specified, its evolutions are presumed exclusive as well.

Scarlet: Stonjourner

Stonjourer, the Big Rock Pokemon, made its debut in the Galar region--exclusively in Pokemon Sword--as a Rock-type Pokemon designed to represent Stonehenge. It walks on massive boulders, which it will also use to kick opponents.

Violet: Miraidon

Miraidon is the counterpart to Koraidon and serves as the Legendary Pokemon of Pokemon Violet. Rather than travel on all fours, Miraidon transforms into a motorcycle while the player rides on its back through the Paldean region.

Violet: Eiscue

Eiscue, like Stonjourner, was introduced to the Pokemon world in the Galar region. It was also a version exclusive when it debuted, as it could only be found in Pokemon Shield. If it takes physical damage, the ice cube will break, revealing its true face.

Violet: Salamence

Salamence is a Dragon- and Flying-type Pokemon and the final evolution of Bagon. Pokemon lore says that Bagon was able to evolve into Salamence simply by dreaming to fly.

NOTE: Salamence has not been officially named as a version exclusive, but as its pre-evolution Bagon was specified, its evolutions are presumed exclusive as well.

Violet: Ceruledge

Ceruledge is a Fire- and Ghost-type Pokemon. The blades on each arm are made from a fire and ghost energy hybird, and they will transform into great swords during battle.

Violet: Bagon

Bagon debuted in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire's Hoenn region, being dubbed the "Rock Head Pokemon." Like Larvitar, it will create a cocoon around itself when it evolves, with a second evolution happening soon after.

Violet: Shelgon

Shelgon is the first evolution of Bagon, representing its cocoon-like shelled state before evolving again into Salamence.

Note: Shelgon has not been officially named as a version exclusive, but as its pre-evolution Bagon was specified, its evolutions are presumed exclusive as well.
